During Secondary Stage students begin to specialize in specific subjects and prepare for higher education or enter the workforce. At Aile School, our 5-year integrated secondary curriculum seamlessly merges Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9) and Key Stage 4 (Years 10-11) into a continuous program that prepares students aged 11-12 for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) examinations, or pursuing the High School Diploma.
Both programs provide parents with the opportunity to choose International educational pathway that best suits their child’s needs and aspirations. We will discuss the benefits of both programs and how they can prepare students for success in higher education and beyond.
IGCSE
The IGCSE program, which is based on the British curriculum, offers students a rigorous and internationally recognized education. The program focuses on developing critical thinking, analytical skills, and independent learning, preparing students for the challenges of higher education. The IGCSE curriculum covers a wide range of subjects, including English, mathematics, science, humanities, and languages, allowing students to specialize in areas of interest and gain a broad knowledge base.
In the UK, secondary education typically starts at the age of 11 and lasts until the age of 16, at which point students take their General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) exams. These exams cover a range of subjects, including English, mathematics, science, and humanities.
After completing their GCSEs, students have the option to continue their education by studying for their A-level exams, which are typically taken at the age of 18. A-levels are more specialized than GCSEs and provide students with the opportunity to focus on subjects they are passionate about or subjects that are required for their chosen career path.
High School
In contrast, the secondary education system in the USA is more decentralized, with each state having its own set of standards and curriculum. In general, secondary education in the US starts at the age of 14 and lasts until the age of 18. Students in the US typically take a variety of classes in core subjects such as English, mathematics, science, and social studies, as well as elective courses in subjects like art, music, and physical education.
At the end of their secondary education, students in the US may take standardized tests such as the SAT or ACT, which are used by colleges and universities as part of the admissions process. Our High School Program is a unique and innovative six-year learning journey that offers students aged 11-12 a comprehensive education leading to a high school diploma. Beginning at Grade 7 and concluding at Grade 12, this program is tailored to provide students with a well-rounded and engaging educational experience that prepares them for success in higher education and beyond.
The program is delivered through a cutting-edge virtual platform, supplemented by on site Green Hubs where students can participate in hands-on learning and community-based projects. Students in the high school program have the opportunity to explore a variety of subjects and extracurricular activities, helping them discover their passions and interests. The high school curriculum emphasizes a well-rounded education, with a focus on developing communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and social awareness.
